What we did:

  • Quote: Listen carefully to the first criticisms of your work.  Note just what it is about your work the critics don’t like – then cultivate it.  That’s the part of your work that’s individual and worth keeping.
  • Story: “How to Cure a Cold” by Mark Twain

What you need to get:
  • A copy of the assignment sheets – the assignments aren’t due until May 9th, but you can turn them in any time before then for credit.  I would suggest not putting these assignments off until the end of the semester when you will be swamped with other things to do.
What you need to do:
  • Work on your first portfolio piece
What is due?:
  • Group One: Copies are due on the 17th
  • Group Two: Copies are due on the 24th
  • Change: We will discuss group one stories on the 29th of January.  Those of you not in group one will need to have read and commented on the stories by that time.

    • Must tell Miss Newman where you are going, and how long you will be gone.
    • Must have your own camera – no tagging along with friends.
    • Must show Miss Newman your pictures when you get back so that she knows you weren’t wasting time.

What is due?:
  • Your first assignment is due on Thursday by the end of class.  Please email your assignments to joni.newman@meritacademy.org with the subject line: Photography, (Your name), (The assignment name).
    • The assignment name is the name found on the assignment sheet.  (Color, black and white. . . etc.)
  • The deadline for your second project was the 24th but Miss Newman will not be there in class that day, so your assignment will be due on the 29th instead.

  • Discussed color by looking at a few blogs with example pictures and different styles you could try (lots of color, focusing on one color, etc.)
  • Introduced photoshop basics (Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation, masking.)

  • Practice with photoshop, come see Miss Newman if you would like a demonstration.
What is due?:
  • First set of photos (75 shots on one theme with 3 shots that have been edited) due on Thursday, January 17th.
